Before the unveiling of the Three Gorges Dam, the Itaipu Dam held the number one spot worldwide. Located on the Brazil-Paraguay border, the facility has the capacity to generate 14,000 megawatts.The dam officially opened in 1984, and since then has hit multiple world records. It is the second largest Hydro-electric dam in the world.
