The Treaty of Sèvres (French: Traité de Sèvres) in 1920 was designed to liquidate the Ottoman Empire and virtually abolished Turkish sovereignty. In practice it was ineffective and was replaced by the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923 which recognized Turkey.
