Yakutsk, located in the Sakha Republic of Russia, is often considered one of the coldest cities in the world. It experiences extremely cold temperatures during the winter months, with average January temperatures dropping to around -40°C (-40°F) and occasionally reaching as low as -50°C (-58°F) or even lower. These extreme temperatures make Yakutsk one of the coldest inhabited places on Earth.

While Antarctica is indeed the coldest continent on Earth, it’s not considered a city. Antarctica is a vast landmass covered in ice and snow, and it experiences incredibly low temperatures, often dropping below -60°C (-76°F) during the winter months.

However, in terms of inhabited areas, Yakutsk in Russia holds the title for one of the coldest cities in the world. While Antarctica may have colder temperatures overall due to its extreme climate, Yakutsk is among the coldest inhabited places where people live year-round.

Correct Answer: Yakutsk
