The magnitude 7.8 quake was one of the strongest to strike the area in more than a century. A devastating earthquake of 7.8 on the Richter scale hit Southern Turkiye (Turkey) in the early hours of 6 February (4.17 a.m.), with epicentre in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaras province.
