Al-Kitāb al-mukhtaṣar fī ḥisāb al-jabr wa’l-muqābala (The Compendious Book on Calculation by Completion and Balancing) was written by Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi around 825–830 AD in Baghdad. The book is considered the first surviving algebra text and is written in Arabic. Al-Khwarizmi is also known as the “Father of Algebra” and the “Father of Algorithms”. He wrote his famous treatise al-Kitāb al-mukhtaṣar fī ḥisāb al-jabr wa’l-muqābala (translated into Latin in the 12th century as Algebra et Almucabal, from which the modern term algebra is derived).
